A practice of processes and methods
Urban Foxes strives for sustainable, inclusive and co-created cities. Through our local and international projects, our lectures, workshops and concrete tools we advocate for the involvevement of often forgotten stakholders in decision-making processes. Three of our concrete projects, the Academy for Urban Action (local and framework sharing internationally), DURF (governmental assignment) and Placemaking for Inclusion (a centrally applied large-scale Erasmus+ project) will feature during the session, thereby showcasing our work and methodologies in youth envolvement, didactical non-formal framework creation, international and governmental collaborations and urban re-imagination.
AUA works on the cross-section of participatory youth action-research, sustainability education and active citizenship. Through a 8-week cycle of a self-chosen topic, the youngsters go from beginners to experts, embarking on phases of urban laboratories, local & international collaborations, urban masterclasses, prototyping and co-creation using participatory budgetting and showcasing their work to policymakers and the local community.
With DURF, Urban Foxes replied to a call from the Flemish Government aiming to involve youth in the decision making process through the writing of a project call, being the youth jury and writing the advice to the Minister of Youth. At the moment we are halfway in the process and the DURF youth jury has successfully written a project call that will be launched in one month time. This quite unique approach and trajectory (even on a EU level) is a clear sign the Flemish Government wants to young people in the driver’s seat regarding projects that aim at youth for their target audience.
PM4I is a large scale Erasmus+ project creating an ecosystem regarding placemaking and youthwork. Apart from a competence framework, an AR app, an E-course and open badges system, we have create a PM4I Cookbook in order to easily duplicate and implement the recepies in the local context and to stimulate youth workers and urban professionals to use non-formal education to work with young people on matters of placemaking, place pedagogy and urban/sustainability matters.
