Sofia was born in Germany and moved to Greece when she was twelve. Being exposed to different cultures throughout her life created openness and flexibility to be part of diverse communities. She believes this experience also built her character and contributed to her becoming a positive and forward-looking person. Sofia studied sociology and has always been interested in young people.

For Sofia, youth work is dynamic, innovative, and keeps her updated with all aspects of life and society. She is a mother of two, and happy to live in Thessaloniki, a city with many opportunities for a quality life. Sofia is optimistic and focused on the good side of life, which she sees as the ‘Greek’ trait in her. She currently serves as the Head of the Educational Department of the municipality of Kordelio-Evosmos, overseeing a total of a hundred schools. In her daily work, Sofila takes care that these schools are well maintained and have all functional needs met. Her other responsibilities include activities of the municipal youth information centre. Through this work, she gained plenty of experience in Youth in Action and Erasmus+ programs and oversaw hundreds of youth exchange projects. Covering both formal and non-formal youth work, Sofia gained a fuller perspective of youth work. And all that in a very special place – the municipality of Kordelio-Evosmos is a youth-rich place – with 18.000 students, it is the ‘youngest’ municipality in northern Greece.
