Pärnu Youth Television brings together the activities of Pärnu’s youth in a video – people (-role models) speaking to young people, youth policy, sports, music/dance, events, movies, hobbies/opportunities for leisure, (mental) health, etc. Everything that could interest young people. Through television viewers get the information they need and television producers acquire both technical and social skills.
The Pärnu youth podcast channel has been created by the youth of Pärnu youth television and for all young people in order to convey the voice of the youth. The channel reflects the actions, thoughts, wishes of the youth of Pärnu and provides an opportunity for self-expression. In addition, we want to share information with young people about various hobby and sports activities, educational topics and to introduce exciting people and professions. Through the podcast, the listeners get the information they need, and the podcast makers acquire both technical and social skills.
The goal of the film festival among young people:
– cultivate creativity
– increasing the courage to perform, self-expression and social skills
– developing self-initiative and organizational skills
– developing young people’s digital skills
– encouraging cooperation both between the young people themselves and between Pärnu’s educational and youth work institutions (strengthening Pärnu’s educational network);
– Empowerment of events reflecting Pärnu’s youth and youth activities in the public media space
– an opportunity is created for discors, dance troupes or bands to perform in Pärnu (at a gala event)
– creation of a new series of events in Pärnu involving young people and exciting
– develop interest in the film world among young people.

Today, young people no longer read texts, but they look for information from the world of video. For this purpose, Pärnu Youth Television was created as a threshold for the film hobby. Through making television young people learn many social skills in addition to technical skills. They learn to write formal letters to invite guests to our studio. Young people search for information and prepare interview questions themselves. Young people design a studio, record meetings with guests. The places where we go to film also broaden the horizons of young people. These are places that maybe young people don’t get into in their everyday activities. Through all this, the courage of speaking, social skills, etc. grows in young people.
The above also applies to making a youth podcast, but here is an opportunity to acquire the same skills for those interested who do not want to show their face on the screen for some reason. In this way, it is easier for them to start with so-called radio work and move on to television later if they wish.
Both in the TV show and in the podcast, we have been visited by young role models from very different fields, such as superstars, singers, actors, athletes, as well as the President of the Republic of Estonia.
The Pärnu students’ film festival has started with enormous popularity. Young people have a great desire to make their own films and express themselves in the language of film. With the last level of the festival, the jury of the festival (professionals in their fields of film in Estonia) were very surprised by the different perspectives of young people. The festival is structured in such a way that it will give young people more enthusiasm with its festivity and everyone will feel like an A-category film festival, which is also the extremely popular Dark Nights film festival in the world, which is a partner of our students’ film festival, and one a very special film will also enter this international festival to the big screen. Our film festival will also take place in Pärnu’s largest cinema hall with a red carpet, a photo wall and journalists. Of course, we will also hand out prizes and so-called Oscars to the winners of different categories there.

The number of viewers and listeners of our various channels has grown tremendously in two years and our activities are known not only among young people and youth workers/educational workers in Pärnu but all over Estonia. We are also offered to make stories of various topics. In addition, based on our experience, other youth centers also want to create similar initiatives for young people and based on this experience and guidance, we have a lot of work to do. And at the end of the gala event of the film festival, young people are already looking forward to the next festival and start thinking about their new film that same evening. From all this we can conclude that we are doing a very important thing in the field of youth.
