Jonas is our esteemed colleague, a member of the EGL Advisory Board, and Senior Advisor in KEKS. At our recent EGL event in Tromsø, Norway, we had an opportunity to learn more about his latest book.
With his extensive experience in the field, Jonas talks from a personal and practical perspective about what is needed to run and develop youth work.

More about the author:
Starting as a municipal youth worker in 1980, Jonas Agdur has had a long career in the youth work sector, holding positions as a street worker, project leader, head of a youth centre, and head of local departments for youth work. In 2005, he founded KEKS, a network of local departments for youth work and youth work providers with today over 90 member organisations in twelve European countries.
During the last decade, Jonas has had numerous European assignments, including being chair of the EU expert group on youth work quality systems and member of the Council of Europe High Level Task Force on Youth Work. Jonas has also written Improving Youth Work – your guide to quality development on behalf of the European Commission and the report Youth Work and the Role of Local and Regional Authorities on behalf of the Council of Europe Congress of Local and Regional Authorities.
Jonas is a member of the Europe Goes Local steering group and is known as ‘the father’ of the European Charter on Local Youth Work. Due to his broad experience in youth work policy and practice, he has been a speaker at numerous national and European conferences and events. Over the years, he has also supported many municipalities within and outside KEKS in the development of local policy, organisation, and practice.
